The initial inspiration came from shadows reflected on grass. After a few weeks she came up with a technique that did not create the object she chose onto canvas in an unflat image. In this way, the selected subject is transformed into an image of itself. This is especially true when using living items or objects that die like fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's painting style, which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only piece of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Both the painting and photographic methods are tightly interwoven and result in a flat, two dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension can only be seen within certain places that are close to the eyes or in hair. Meade frequently integrates her paintings within the three-dimensional space around the figures. They interact within this self-created universe. Thereby repealing the boundaries between painting, photography, installation and performance.
